On Calculation of Volume 2 (Om udregning af rumfang) by Solvej Balle

In the second book of the series, Tara Selter finds herself still trapped in a perplexing time-loop, stuck on November 18th for 368 days with no apparent escape. Initially hopeful that a return to Paris might break the cycle, Tara’s optimism wanes as she resigns herself to the never-ending repetition of this day. Instead of returning to her partner, Thomas, in Clairon-sous-Bois, she embarks on a journey through various European cities.

Tara roams through Paris, allowing the bustling crowds to lead her aimlessly through the streets. Her quest for an exit wanes, and hope slowly dissipates. She boards a train with her bag filled with notes and her green notebook, traveling from town to town in France, listening to people’s conversations and documenting them. When Christmas approaches, Tara returns to Brussels to celebrate with her parents and sister, temporarily breaking away from the monotonous November 18th.

Growing tired of the perpetual November, Tara yearns for the changing seasons. She travels to various European cities, seeking winter and eventually ending up in Sweden, where she experiences a thin layer of snow. Her desire for deep winter takes her to Norway, where a perilous encounter with a lorry driver named Jeanette reminds her of the importance of spring.
